SPX 2009 Acquisitions!

Just remembered I didn’t talk about any of the cool swag I picked up at this year’s SPX! Be sure to give all these nifty people a look!

Not really as many minicomics caught my eye this year, and I ended up buying mostly collections and webcomic books and didn’t really pick up much by anyone I wasn’t seeking out. Maybe it was due to the large webcomic presence at the con this year? Who knows…

Don’ do it!

At this year’s SPX, I had a little ghost plush on my table for decoration to help hawk the free candy we were giving away. I hadn’t made the plush myself, but I really like the lil’ guy and thought he would add a little pizazz to my Halloween/ghost table theme. My easel setup kept the little ghostie out of my view mostly, but when Amanda yelled out, “SOMEONE’S MOLESTING YOUR GHOST!” I got up and looked. This GUY… He had just picked up my ghost plush and was rolling it and kneading it between his hands, no desire to buy it or anything like that… just to rub his hands all over it as much as possible I guess. He had even thought I HAD hand made it… Is that what you do to what you think are people’s hand made toys? No shame either when confronted. Ok, all you convention people? Don’t fondle people’s plush dolls. Gently inspect, respectfully handle, just don’t rub all over with your sweaty mitts! Please keep it “just friends” for now.

Back from SPX, and contest winners!

Got back from SPX early on Monday morning and CHILLED OUT. Working the exhibit table is always draining work (get a peek of my table display above). Had a better location this year, lots more foot traffic, and did infinitely better than last year, so good stuff! Even though the exhibit hall was frikkin’ FREEZING, still managed to have some fun. Oh SPX…

As for the winners of the contests… Well, nobody ENTERED any of the contests except for the fanart contest, so there are only 2 winners! Just think about how EASY it would have been to win if only you had entered a contest all you non-contest-enterers!

I love seeing how the characters can be interpreted differently by different artists, and I think both artists managed to keep the characters very, well, IN CHARACTER. Good job, folks! Preparing for SPX!

I will be exhibiting at the Small Press Expo this year with my friends Amanda Kahl and Kyle Magnan. I’ll have copies of Festering Romance, original artwork from the book, pins, and mini-comics available for sale. Come by, get a signed copy of the book, and pick up some free candy while supplies last! I will have special prices for the convention.

Amanda will have Age of Night comics and other mini-comics, and Kyle Magnan will have some Scrambles collections and mini-comics available. There’ll be a lot of cool people and awesome stuff at this year’s SPX, so stop on by if you’re in the Bethesda, MD area this coming Saturday and Sunday!

Since I will be at the convention most of the weekend, new blog posts will be postponed until Oct. 2, so in lieu of new content, COME SEE US AT SPX, EH?
