So… So much…

San Diego at night.

This year at San Diego, Kyle and I were able to visit a lot more around the city than the last time I went to Comic-Con. In 2007, all I did in San Diego was visit Comic-Con, so this year it was nice to be able to visit places like SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo. Let’s see if I can get my head together here and make a list of some of the things we did in San Diego this year…

San Diego Natural History Museum.

1. Got to see the BodyWorlds exhibit at the San Diego Natural History Museum

2. COMIC-CON, COMIC-CON, COMIC-CON

Part of the “line” for the Disney Animation panel (featuring Miyazaki).

3. Saw Miyazaki! (after waiting in line for 2+ hours)

A gold fire hydrant outside the venue for Tim & Eric.

4. Saw a live performance of Tim & Eric
5. Got to participate in a Comic-Con panel and signings for the first time

Fancy-shmanshy party.

6. Got to see the fancy-schmanshy Oni party (then went and ate ice cream)
6. Visited the downtown Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (breathing wall, so cool!)

SeaWorrrllllld!

7. Went to SeaWorld and petted manta rays!

Aloof pandas at the zoo.

8. Went to the San Diego Zoo for 2 days (I don’t think I’d ever been to a zoo before this!)
9. Ate a lot of Cheesecake Factory cheesecake
10. Bought food on an airplane for the first time (not so bad…)
11. Saw TokyoDrift on TV (TOKYOOOOOO… DRIFT!DRIFT!DRIFT!)

I wonder if I even remember everything we did — the days started to run together… Every day felt like 2-3 days, and we were walking so much every day our feet were sore every night. I’m really happy we were able to go though, since I don’t think I’ll ever be able to repeat some of the things we were able to do this year. I probably won’t be going to Comic-Con again for a few years at least. SPX is coming up soon though… That’ll probably be the last convention for a while.

In other news, I’ve decided to change the format of the blog a bit. From the beginning, I had a schedule set for artwork posts and blog posts, but it’s become rather limiting. There have been times when I couldn’t post what I wanted right away because I was supposed to do a blog post when I wanted to post artwork, or an artwork post when I had more blog material. Also, sometimes either a blog or artwork post would end up being far too time consuming when I had other things going on in my life, and I would have rather posted one than the other.

My posting schedule will remain the same at Mondays and Fridays by 7pm EST. However, the contents of every post will no longer be definitely blog or definitely artwork. I know this might disappoint some people who look for either one type of post or the other, but since there’s a lot of stuff going on in my life right now, it’s the right choice for me in order to help me continue updating the blog in a timely manner. If you have any feedback about the changes, just let me know. I’m always interested in hearing ways to improve this blog.

Thanks for checking in today, and look out on Monday for a new update!

Comic-CONNNNNNNNN!

Written by Renee on August 7, 2009 – 6:30 pm -

Took tons and tons of photos while in San Diego, so I feel compelled to post some of them… (Sorry TJ!) Here’s some pics Kyle and I took while at Comic-Con!

It’s just not Comic-Con without Pokemon!

Like, the most smug Gremlin ever.

Alien dude at a toy booth.

A teeny tiny Miyazaki as seen from far away taken at the Disney animation panel. I still think it’s kind of backwards that we were actually able to get into the Disney animation panel and not the Venture Brothers panel!

The Oni Press/UTA/EA party. No matter how much I know I don’t like parties, I keep trying to see if one might be really cool. There were a bunch of people standing around, no giant food table (my dream), and then the DJ started remixing, “Another One Bites the Dust.” Uh-huh, we were out of there pretty fast…

After a couple days, I made this sign to entice people to come by and look at the book. I didn’t see anyone really get much traffic at the Oni signings during the times I was scheduled for except Bryan Lee O’Malley and Ross Campbell (big surprise). Strangely, the sign ended up working somewhat… Wadayaknow.

My view of the signing table.

Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to check back Monday for more artwork!
