Lupin III & Rayearth fanarts

Written by Renee on April 3, 2009 – 6:30 pm -

As would be expected, as a high school anime fan I drew lots of FANART. Here’s a couple for today:

… a fanart of Goemon from Lupin III, and…

…a fanart of Hikaru from Magic Knight Rayearth. I was really into these series back when.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look, and check back on Monday for more Festering Romance art!

Triple kicks

Written by Renee on March 20, 2009 – 6:30 pm -

Back in high school for some reason I repeatedly drew pictures of people kicking at the viewer. The perspective wasn’t always right, but it was always fun to draw. Here’s a few in order from oldest to newest:

High school club t-shirts

Written by Renee on March 6, 2009 – 6:30 pm -

Ug, got sick for the first time in about 1 1/2 years… Managed to avoid it for so long and then the combination of sudden cold weather + sick boyfriend did me in. Not fun times, but now recovering…

For today, I have some old t-shirt designs that I did in high school.

I think I did this design in 10th grade for Media Club… For school clubs, I chose to be in “media club,” which sounds cool, but actually it’s the library club, AKA the “media center” club. We didn’t really do anything except raise money for the weekly meeting donut fund and have a canned food drive. Deceptively, this shirt design would make you think our club was more about a more widespread thought of media, but no. Either way, they accepted this design and it was silkscreened on the back of our lime-green shirts.

I did this design for the Foreign Language International Club (AKA FLIC) in 11th grade. This was put on the back of white t-shirts. Since it was for FLIC, she’s like “flicking” the world at you… get it? Eh? Eh? There was a competition for the design, and I think I won some moolah for this one, like $25 or something. Oh yeah, the sweet dough.

Lastly, I made this shirt for a business club called DECA (I have no idea what it stands for) in 12th grade. I did a color version of the design, but they cheaped out last minute and went for the B&W lineart, printing it in blue onto yellow t-shirts. In the colored version, the guy had brown hair and the girl had red hair (my default hair colors men and women at the time) so they kind of ended up looking like Mulder and Scully. If they hadn’t been so cheap we could have had pseudo X-Files t-shirts! But oh well. I don’t really know why I knew about this club… It was probably because I took Advertising as an elective and the teacher lady was head of the club I think? Who knows.

Well, hope you enjoyed looking at these old designs. I’m pretty sure I still have these shirts somewhere… Check back on Monday for some more Festering Romance art!

Ohtori movie poster

Written by Renee on February 20, 2009 – 6:30 pm -

I took a class called Computer Art during my senior year in high school where basically all we did was learn little things about Adobe programs and screwed around with the huge computer tablets in the lab. It was pretty fun and not really that complicated a class. For one of our assignments, we had to make a movie poster, so I got permission to make a parody poster:

My idea was basically to combine ideas from the Utena anime and Rushmore to spoof the Rushmore movie poster. I thought the two movies had interesting parallels — the elite academy, fighting over a woman, an “out-there” sort of freespirited “revolutionary” — so I thought it would be a pretty fun idea.

The date on the bottom of the image says that it was finished in 2002 (my senior year), but I had drawn the artwork for the poster earlier than that and prepared some other parts of the image previously. An old friend of mine had even helped make the logo (I don’t really understand the perspective warper thing in Photoshop…). Getting the class assignment was a good excuse for me to actually finish this old personal project of mine. I’m pretty pleased with the results, but I do see some flubs here and there. I think if you’re familiar with both Utena and Rushmore you might get a kick out of this, so here ya go.

The Jalapeno Bread Tragedy

Written by Renee on February 13, 2009 – 6:30 pm -

Hey, yo! Since things are probably going to be pretty busy for the next few months, you’ll probably be seeing more and more high school art for my blog posts since it’s so dang easy to post the stuff! For today, a high school comic!

Marvel at the puking! Be shocked by the stick figures! Stand amazed at my brazen multiple misspellings of “jalapeno”!

I drew this with a Sharpie in the lunch room one day during high school after I had tasted a piece of my friend’s jalapeno bread. He kept going on and on about how great it was… But indeed, how great it was not. Right after tasting it I went over to the trash can and spit it out. Yuck yuck. Obviously, a lot of planning didn’t go into this comic, but it does indeed portray the honest emotions of my tragic youth. You’re getting some real insight into my psyche with this one.
