Site survey… and a gift prize?!

Written by Renee on January 30, 2009 – 6:30 pm -

Dare you take the SITE SURVEY?!

Hey there everyone! It’s now been about two months since I started this blog, and, in order to better suit the reader, I would appreciate any feedback about this site that you might be able to give. In order to facilitate such feedback, I’ve created a short 7 question survey that I would appreciate if you would fill out. As an incentive, from all the people who fill out the survey according to the instructions below, I will choose one person from a random drawing to receive a free prize (for entrants in the USA only)!

So, in addition to helping make this site better, you might get a prize mailed to you! Pretty neat, huh?!

Dare you gaze upon the fabled gift prize? Mayhaps!

Instructions for the survey:

Copy and paste the numbered list below into the comments field:

1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
6)
7)

Fill in your answer for every question after the appropriate number. To be eligible for the free prize, you must include your e-mail address in the e-mail field in the comments form, fill out the survey completely, and answer each question according to the available options. If you prefer not to fill out the survey in the comments section, you may e-mail me your responses to the e-mail address I have listed on right sidebar of this site and you will still be eligible. I reserve the right to disqualify entries that I deem flippant or otherwise unacceptable (example: You answer “butt” for every question). Please, if you are going to fill out the survey, answer the questions honestly and seriously. Only entries filled out from 01/30/09 to 02/05/09 (Eastern Standard Time) will be eligible for the prize. Only one winner will be selected. Winner will be announced in the next blog post, 02/06/09!

Now, onto the survey!

Festering Romance page 138 pencils

Written by Renee on January 26, 2009 – 6:30 pm -

For your enjoyment, Festering Romance page 138 pencils:

It seems to be getting harder and harder for me to find appropriate pages to post that don’t contain spoilers for earlier sections of the book… There’s really not many pages that are “filler” or plot-wise inconsequential. Ah well, with 1 page a week, I should have enough material before the book comes out.

Thanks for looking, and check back on Friday for a new blog post!

Blast from the past

Written by Renee on January 23, 2009 – 6:30 pm -

Same ol’ same ol’ happening this week… Inking, drawing, etc. The guys at Oni approved the pencils for my cover design, so I’m pleased to see that get done. But, since there isn’t much exciting to report, today I figured I’d dredge up remnants from time forgotten… HIGH SCHOOL ART!

When I look back on some of the artwork I did in high school, I don’t really know if I’ve gotten much better skillwise. I feel like I was more advanced in some ways back then… My anatomy still looked pretty good without having had all this art-school instruction, and the linework in my penciled drawings was extremely tight and clean. Has art school ruined me?! But, more than better or worse, I feel like my artwork now is just different, although it also feels kind of like a progression from that artwork back then. My “style” back in high school could be very extreme to the point of being unattractive, so I think I’ve sort of leveled out a bit.

According to the date on this picture, I drew this in 2000. I’m pretty sure I inked it with a felt tipped pen since that’s what I inked most everything with back then. Also, in high school, I used to shade pretty much all my sketches in with pencil. I must have had a lot of free time. I called this drawing, “80s Pants” since she’s wearing these velvet stirrup pants that make me think of the ’80s.

Well, I hope you liked this little trip down memory lane. I have a bunch of this old art saved from my high school website-making days, so you’ll probably see more pop up here from time to time. Check back on Monday for more artwork from Festering Romance!

My workspace 01/09

Written by Renee on January 16, 2009 – 6:30 pm -

Not much really happening lately… starting work on the cover for Festering Romance, inking, etc etc… So, this week, I’ve prepared a diagram of my workspace in case anyone is interested:

1. Droopy ol’ desk lamp + clip fan
2. Framed artwork by Coleman Engle
3. Tiny cheapo cat calendar
4. Electric eraser hanging from clip attached to desktop + dirty ink rag
5. Trusty 11″x17″ lightbox
6. Spin-o-tray (taped to desktop) containing brushes, pens, erasers… whatever
7. Mini T-square in desk-side stuff slot
8. Electric pencil sharpener
9. Dust brush + 12″ cork-backed metal ruler + cutting mat (also taped to desk)
10. Diluted Windsor Newton ink in film canister w/ ink splatter sheets
11. Koh-i-noor Rapidographs in “Humidifying Revolving Selector” & a bunch of french curves behind it on the table
12. Drawer full of templates (tons of ellipses, circles, squares)
13. Tons of cords + surge protector
14. Footstool (I have a tall chair)
15. Ink bottles, nibs, eyedropper
16. Little containers of FW white ink & white Acrylagouache

Usually I have my lightbox off the table, but right now I’m preparing to lightbox through the back of some of my pencils to weed out problems in the art before I ink. If you see anything else that you have no idea what it is, feel free to ask!

Hope you enjoyed looking at my workspace, and check back on Monday for more artwork from Festering Romance!
