Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It

Yeah,I finally got my new computer… Finally. Finally. And finally got the glitch it had fixed by the warranty.

Yes, after I waited since mid-December, I have finally received my computer from Dell.

First it was delayed until infinity, only for me to find out that the model I had ordered was discontinued (although they weren’t ever going to inform me of this). So, after reading about the discontinuation online and calling them, I received some consolation when they told me I could be bumped up to the newer model for no additional charge.

I finally received it, only to find it made a crazy loud rattling noise from inside the tower. After going through torturous Indian technical support 3 times, I got these guys to say they would send me a technician as covered by my service plan… although they were more than happy to tell me over the phone to reassemble all the hardware on the motherboard myself, which I wasn’t going to do.

So, they say they are about to send a technician out, only to tell me days later that the power supply (a highly hypothetical cause of the problem) they had ordered to replace was out of stock and would take 2 weeks to receive, so I wouldn’t get my tech support till then… Causing me to flip out and tell them, “Y’know, I don’t think it’s the power supply, it’s definitely not the power supply! I think you can just send the technician over with the other parts!” Not that I knew if it was the power supply or not…

Later, out of curiosity, I opened up my computer by myself again, and found out that it was the video card that made the noise, so I call them back to tell them the real problem. And apparently, there’s no record of the previous call?! But since I actually KNOW the problem now, they actually send somebody! Thank goodness the video card wasn’t out of stock! Also, one of the Indian technicians laughed at me when I said video supply (getting power supply and video card mixed up)!

Oh, and now with Windows 7, my scanner and a few other devices and programs don’t work, so I guess the ol’ comp’s stickin’ around.

Also, McAfee sucks. Like really hard. It will delete files it thinks are viruses on your hard drive without even asking you? And then you can’t retrieve them? GRAAAAAAAAH! So I uninstalled that after it deleted a few of my known good files.

Ok, but it’s ok, because I finally have the computer now, and it doesn’t make crazy noises… Although so many things have happened I don’t know if I can rest easy about it.
